In 2010, I was asked to edit X Magazine – an official and with hindsight rather ambitious attempt to move the X Factor ‘brand’ onto the newsstands.
It’s fair to say X was a complicated proposition: it was a music magazine with X Factor stuff in it, rather than just an X Factor magazine. It was also sort of supposed to be a women’s mag of some sort.
Anyway, it ran for the duration of what is now simply referred to as The One Direction Series, then it went away at Christmas and, much like Diva Fever, was never heard of again. Which is a shame because it was staffed by one of the greatest editorial teams British pop publishing has ever seen.
